Music Composition (B.A.)
Every piece of music is a wordless language that speaks from the soul of its composer—a voice shaped by thought, artistry, experience, and imagination.
Composition is not merely the science of sound and music; it is the art of living with them. It is where history and culture, technique and emotion, merge into a new harmony. The composer arranges notes, commands instruments, captures time, and creates an entirely new world—a world that can bring laughter, evoke tears, inspire passion, and offer solace.
About
Music, as the foremost art, is a vast science shaped by the customs, historical events, moral values, and cultural characteristics of each society.
Composition is one of the most fundamental and essential branches of music, dedicated to teaching both the scientific and artistic methods of creating musical works. It is not limited to writing melodies; rather, it is a complex and highly specialized process that requires mastery of music theory, harmony, counterpoint, orchestration, and a deep understanding of diverse musical cultures.
The goal of this program is to train professional and innovative artists who, through a solid grasp of compositional techniques, exposure to a wide range of musical styles, and an understanding of music’s role in contemporary life, can make a meaningful impact at both national and international levels.
Students in this program are introduced to the foundations of music theory, sound composition and arrangement, musical form and structure, and the principles of composition. They learn how to transform their ideas into works that are not only original and enduring but also capable of expressing the emotions, beliefs, and cultural identity of a nation.
At Pars University of Architecture and Art, the program is offered with a modern, practice-oriented, and creativity-driven approach. With the guidance of distinguished faculty members and a curriculum that reflects the latest global developments, the university provides an excellent environment for nurturing talented and innovative composers.
Through a combination of theoretical and practical training, along with hands-on projects and collaboration with other artistic disciplines, students at Pars University are fully prepared to enter the professional world of music.
Skills
During the program, students engage with specialized subjects in the field of composition, including the study of musical sounds and their physical properties, musical forms, traditional and folk instruments of Iran, the construction and performance capabilities of instruments, as well as rhythms, intervals, and their combinations through vocal practice.
They explore the historical development of music across different periods, both globally and in Iran—from ancient times to the present—and analyze the structures of works by various composers.
Students also acquire essential skills in choral performance, such as correct breathing techniques for sound production, vocal training for ensemble singing, sustained tone exercises, and the performance of simple homophonic pieces with proper vocal technique. They develop abilities in sonority, dynamics, and the execution of canons in two, three, and four voices.
In addition, the program provides training in the use of instruments and the human voice in composition, the principles of harmony, chord progression, and melodic writing. Students become familiar with a wide range of instruments, including woodwinds, brass, bowed strings, plucked strings, hammered strings, and percussion instruments.
