About

Specialists in this highly technical, cultural, and artistic field must not only have a thorough understanding of the specialized aspects and modern concepts of their profession but also maintain a keen and scholarly perspective on the past. The minimum education required in this field is a bachelor’s degree, with the possibility of continuing education up to a Ph.D. in Iran. Having adequate knowledge of the history and geography of Iran and neighboring countries is essential for students in this field. Archaeologists conduct investigations and explorations in all climatic regions, including deserts, mountains, and rainy areas, and then spend many days in indoor laboratories researching the discovered artifacts. Today, those who choose this field will be recognized as researchers.

Archaeologists can estimate the type and age of civilizations in areas based on the discovered objects and, as a result, reconstruct life in past times for others in different regions. The duty of archaeologists is not only to find an artifact but also to clean and restore it using laboratory materials after discovery.

Skill Areas

Individuals interested in studying archaeology must possess a great deal of patience, as excavating ancient artifacts is a strenuous task. Additionally, they should be meticulous and detail-oriented to achieve the best results during projects and exploratory operations. Having written communication skills with other fields and scientists is one of the most important abilities an applicant for archaeology must have.

Job Fields

Graduates of this field can work in various government and private organizations, museums, historical sites, and even their own private companies.

Necessity of the Profession

Illuminating the past of any society in terms of economic, cultural, social, political, and religious aspects is difficult or even impossible without consulting archaeologists. Archaeology, by discovering solutions that humans found for various issues in the past, allows us to find the most efficient answers for similar contemporary problems using modern tools.
