Handicrafts Major
Handicrafts, also referred to as “traditional arts” in some sources, involve the creation of functional and decorative objects entirely or with the help of simple, non-automated tools such as various cutters, engraving tools, weaving tools, looms, and knitting machines. These activities often use natural materials from local ecosystems like paper, plant fibers, soils, and minerals, and employ traditional methods like molding, casting, and firing to create everyday functional or decorative objects.
About the Major
have spread beyond their original regions in recent centuries. The use of natural or indigenous materials is important, but modern, non-traditional, and even industrial materials have also entered this field. This has led to a definition of handicrafts that focuses on “individual craftsmanship” and “handmade” qualities, distinguishing them from mass production or machine use. Handicrafts are not specific to any one region and have been present throughout history worldwide, especially in Iran.
Purpose: The Handicrafts major aims to train professional and enthusiastic artists and specialists who, by relying on their knowledge, art, and creativity, can best convey the rich and authentic culture of their country to others and to other countries. This artistic field is more practical compared to other art majors. Handicrafts in any region reflect the beliefs, culture, customs, and traditions of that area.
