Jewelry Design and Manufacturing (B.A.)

Jewelry Design and Manufacturing

Traditionally, the value of jewelry has been dependent on the price of its stones and metals. However, in modern times, the nature of the design and its artistic value has dominated the material concept, leading the global market towards purposeful design of valuable and decorative products, even with semi-precious and everyday materials. A jewelry designer is someone who combines science and art to create jewelry.

If we consider gold as the benchmark for jewelry design and production, we can understand the importance of the jewelry-making profession by comparing statistics. Iran is the sixth-largest consumer of gold in the world, with an annual consumption of about 118 tons and a gold circulation of about 300 tons (18 trillion tomans). The global jewelry market also has an annual turnover of over 600 billion dollars.

Given the existing potential in the country in the field of jewelry making, utilizing modern knowledge and transferring it to young forces in an academic environment is an effective way to grow the industry and, consequently, boost economic growth in the country. Moreover, employing trained and creative forces within the country not only creates jobs but also helps preserve Iranian-Islamic traditions and culture in the products used in the country, preventing the influx of diverse and inappropriate foreign items into domestic markets.
